I have searched through this and other forums pretty thoroughly and have not come up with much more than what is available on the KB.

Here is the question:

W2k Server (Domain Controller, Terminal Server, and server for relatively small number of users with dataflex based application -- files saved on server)

Info from application vendor suggested that I had to turn off opportunistic locking on server and read caching on the 9x workstations. (to avoid data corruption) When I turned off opportunistic locking on the server started to recieve warnings on the srv service - could not allocate work item # times in # seconds. No more than about 10 at a clip.

Through knowledge base search found the server optimization setting on this server was set as a default (not sure why) to minimize memory used. The question is what is the best setting? No place in my reading does it even MENTION the setting "balance" it just mentions maximiaze data throughput for file sharing and/or maximize data throughput for network applications.

I set it to balance and I have only received the warning once since.. but wondered if anyone had any ideas what the best setting for my above description of the server use is.

The server is not in full production yet, (will be later this week) so I wanted to head this off in case it becomes errors instead of warnings.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Nancy
