We have an S8300 LSP that is reporting 4mins behind from the main server, several states away, but within the same timezone. I accessed the S8300 and updated the time to reflect that of the S8730, however, how do I get the phones to update the time that is being displayed? In addition, while I was away, they upgraded from R2.2 to R5.02. Prior to my leave, the time was correct. I know that I had set a network time server as the synch source for the S8730 (S8700 at the time). They restored the tiem synch source on the main location, however our remote location is off.

Isn't the S8300 supposed to grab the time from the control server, in this case the S8730?

Is it best practice to set all LSPs/ESSs to synch to the same network time server?

I see there is a place to set the time and offset it based on geography and timezone. If this is set and within the same timezone, why are the phones displaying 4 mins behind the main location?

Your assistance and help is greatly appreciated, in advance...

you should set the S8300 processor, via the "maint. web interface", to the same NTP server your main S8730 uses, or you could even use the S8730's IP as the NTP source (as long as the NTP port is opened for inbound/outbound in the "firewall rules" on both the S8300 and the S8730's).
You SHOULD set the remote S8300 LSP processor to the EXACT same timezone as the main site, because, if it goes active, it will use the location offset programmed in the main switch ("change locations"), and if you want the time to stay accurate, you must do it that way.

On page 10 of the "change system-parameters features" pages, check the setting of the "System Updates Time On Station Displays?".

I'm not sure if it works for VoIP stations, but it works for DCP stations.

It will update the clocks on the stations periodically to keep them from being far out of synch from the PBX time.
