Ive recently encountered a strange problem with a Win2K server. I have two compaq servers, one ML570 and one DL380 and both have always worked without a problem.
The 570 is running Exchange 2K and has two dual network cards. I only use one port to give me a non-redundant 100 connection to my network. The other day just for the sake of looking neater I disabled the other three network interfaces and this is where my problems started. Suddenly network access to and from our Exchange box became slow and rubbish. When I copy the same 5 meg file from my desktop worksation to each server it takes 10 seconds on ML570 with its slow network, but on the DL380 its almost instant.
Ive tried the obvious, like changing to a different interface and changing the network cable. I changed the port on the switch and manually set it to 100mb full duplex rather than letting it negotiate, but nothind seems to make a difference.
I dont think the problem is with the network as nothing else is having problems. Im pretty sure its a Windows thing. My next step is to update the network card drivers and then to try reinstalling IP, but I wondered if anyone has seen a similar problem or has anything else they can suggest.
Im starting to get a little worried as the ML570 runs our backup software and as it now takes days to complete the backup its leaving us vulnerable.
Thanks to anyone who has any more ideas.
