I am having problems on win XP Pro SP2 machine with booting times. When I boot the computer I logon and all the desktop icons come up immediately and anything that is none network related starts. It takes a 1 minute and 30 seconds before the network services start. I've ran disk defrag, sfc, checked all the programs in msconfig tried uninstalling mcafee antivirus and still nothing seems to work. I checked and made sure any network service was set to automatic. Has anyone else had this problem.

Note: This machine authenticates to a win 2000 server.

What kind of network setup is this on? The devices which are being drawn from the network, are they very busy machines? How many hops (switches, routers, systems) between you and the network resources?

Using 3com switches to a Cisco 2600 router. The machine authenticates to a local DC with is win 2000 and we have an NT server for Exchange and file server. None of the other machine have this problem. This machine has Intel p4 2 gig processor with 2 gigs of RAM.

I would remove all of your network properties(TCP/IP, NetBIOS, File & Printer Sharing, all of them), reboot and reinstall them.

You made sure to reboot before you reinstalled them?

Also, if that does not work, I would systematically remove your network dependant apps from starting up (including mapped drives) to see which one is causing the slow down.

Hi ktucker,
I was wond3ering if you got your problem solved because i am also having the same problems. I recently build a computer and installed win xp pro with all the updates and SP2. I have been having the same problem as you....the network stuff(no network cards) wont start for a while. I also noticed that the security center is also not on during this period and so is the antivirus software. I use Trend as the antivirus. I can see its icon on the system tray but it shows it loading after some time when all the other stuff is working. This is completly weird. Please help!!!!
