Hi All,

Somebody told me that changing the typical role of a compute from "Desktop Computer" to "Network Server" would increase the performance of the machine. Is this correct and if so why is there even a setting for "Desktop Computer"
Thanks for the help

Steve

Yes that is true, to an extent. this setting is a holdover of the Win95 days when on an AVERAGE PC memory was 8-24 meg and servers had a whopping 32 to 128 meg of RAM. If you had a desktop PC with 16 meg of RAM you would not want Background stuff loading into it all the time. So now that PC's AVERAGE 128 meg of RAM I gues MS never thought there was a need to remove it. That is the way I understand it anyway> I am sure there are many different reasons, all of them probebly valid. James Collins
