Network requirements for remote SIP phones

Have a customer that is interested in reusing their Polycom SIP phones with an IPO, they are all in remote locations.

We're in search of the network requirements to do this. Do you need a VPN? Only been able to find docs for install on site.

You will need to use a VPN ideally, then it's the same as on site exept a different address range/subnet, you may be able to do it with port forwarding, I have in the past and it works given the right router and setup correctly but troubleshooting this isn't easy if you don't know data very well
