I ahve on our network a Xerox 470_st document which is shared as a network printer using LPR via one of the servers.
As a domain administrator I can connect to it via a laptop without any problems. However, when the user (Chief Exec) who does not have network admin privileges attempts to connect to this machine it will not allow him to do so.
I have tried all the suggestions within Technet of setting up a local printer using the share name etc and all of them fail.
When I try and check the security permissions on the printer via NT4, it says that there is an invalid parameter and will not let me view them.
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated

Remove the share and then re-add it. Use the same name.
Make sure the group 'Everyone' has access to the share.

The share works on every other machine apart from the one XP laptop, but I can't get at the permissions tab to enable access, should I still do this

I've been having a simialar issue trying to administer access rights from my XP workstation. For now i have been administering permissions from a W2K workstation or the server itself. Try setting the permissions and let us know.

Hope this helps.

The last suggestion works perfectly, by setting the user's permissions implicitly, rather than using the groups setting, via a 2000 workstation, I have now solved the problem.

Many thanks to everyone for all their expert assistance
