i have XP that has a shared printer and I want to print from my laptop (win98). I can see the printer. I have installed the most current version of the print drivers. When I first installed the printer on the laptop and did a test page it worked. I then went to print a second test page and nothing will print now. I can see the print job spooling on the win98 computer and leaving the spool. I can see the print job display on the XP computer and then go away with nothing printing, just spooling printing and deleting (very quickly). Yes I can print from the XP computer just fine. Help. Thanks

phart,

When you added the printer on the Windows 98 computer, you should have specified it by UNC pathname (such as \\server\printer). Did you install the drivers from your Windows XP computer that is hosting the printer at that time?

That is how I did install the printer with the UNC. The drivers on thw win98 computer where installed from a current driver download. right after installing the printer on the Win98 computer I got a Test page. Now the printer just spools and deletes the job like it has been printed.

phart,

Hmmm. It sounds like it may be a permissions issue on the XP box that's hosting the printer. I'd take a look at the shared permissions, and make sure that it's set to allow printing for all users.

If need be you might also try uninstalling the printer from the 98 machine and reinstalling it. Although I havent really had much experiance with win98 I dont think that you need to install print drivers on the 98 machine if you are just adding a network printer.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back. But thanks I will look at the permisssions.
