I need to find a simple to use inexpensive network traffic monitoring program. I need to find out why a computer is intermediately losing connection to the network. I have a tcp/ip network with no snmp. Snmp will stop my mas 90 network installation from working. I checked out some stuff on cnet.com but the cheaper one wouldn't work. Any good suggestions. I also tried an internet search and tried a few unsuccessfully.

I use IPMonitor from deepmetrix

does everything I need.. but may be abit too pricey?

I found look at lan. I tried Ethereal also but for me look at lan was easier for what I wanted to do. and its free.

Looks like a great product. Have you been using it long? Any problems or tricks?

I haven't used it long enough to give much info but I like the fact it alarms when a Workstation losses connection. So make sure you enable sount effect and turn up speakers.

Eh...it looks like a pretty neat tool, but when I loaded it at work and the Star Trek sound effects started going off I had coworkers asking me if we were about to be attacked by Klingons. And every single action in the program (even right-clicking) has sound effects.

Other than that, it looks like a pretty neat little program. Unfortunately, if you're running software firewalls then you won't be able to use it to monitor your PCs (depending on the firewall config).
