We are using a Windows Server 2003 machine as a file server in a Workgroup for a Peer-to-Peer Network sharing environment.

Every day around noon our Windows XP machines are unable to access the mapped drives from the 2003 server. Restarting the XP machines does not solve the problem. Restarting the 2003 server appears to solve the problem temporarily.

Here are two logs that appear around the time when the drives become disconnected.

The IP address lease 192.168.1.11 for the Network Card with network address 002219098AD3 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 002219098AD3. The following error occurred:
The semaphore timeout period has expired. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

The scheduled tasks are backups that are down at 9pm. Are automatic updates are done at 3am and anti-virus updates at 8pm.

Thanks.

It sounds like you are loosing your IP address due to IP lease expiration, which would definately prevent access to the drives.

What does "ipconfig /all" show before and after the problem?

Why is the server is using a leased IP address instead of a reserved fixed address?
