Is there a way to alter the display of a network drive in windows explorer so that it does not display the actual network path?

emaybee,

Open Windows Explorer, right click on the shared drive and select Rename.
Change the name to 'Disk.' for example...

Hope this helps,

Erik

emaybee,

If you initiate a share of say a directory on the server,

this is what you should see in explorer:

\\server??\DirName

Are you wanting to eliminate the reference to \\server??

or are you/is your path more complete?

What specifically are you attempting to mask?

rvnguy,

I just want to hide the UNC path.

erikhertzel,

Sounds simple enough but I'd rather not have to touch a couple of hundred computers to do that.

Thanks in advance.

yeah, I know, I hear you...I really dug into this one and that's all I could muster up. Sorry I couldn't help more, but that's the only thing I could come up with...

emaybee,

Looking into this I am a bit confused:

If there is a drive mapping to a shared location( in this example the "DepartmentDir") it should appear something like:

"H:\DepartmentDir\" while the actual UNC is something like:

"\\ServerName\CompanyDir\DepartmentDir\"

Is this not what you are seeing?

Sorry rvnguy. This is the deal....

There is a drive mapping(Z:) and in explorer it displays as

Sharename on 'server\netlogon\foldername\subfoldername'(Z:)

I would like to simply display Sharename (Z:)

No extra path information
