Network drive in DOS?

I NEED to format my puter. But my CD drives aren't working, so I cant use the CD to reinstall windows after Format.

I've been using my network to access CD's thru a shared CD drive on another puter. Is it possible to do this in native DOS, so I can format and reinstall Windows from the network drive?

Hi

Have you tried typing in

net use \\CompName\ShareName

where CompName is the name of the other computer
and ShareName is the shared name of the cd drive.

your cd drives aren't working? Why not - is this part of resaon for reformat/reinstall? (is there a reason to NOT sort out CD drives, then reinstall?)

Have you access to another machine? If so, I'd slave drive to that - format it and copy ME cab/setup files to it. Then put it back in other machine, boot from 98 floppy, and run setup from hard drive.

Yeah, oem cdrom drives can be had for like $25. If they're dead, just replace them? But to answer your original question, you'll need to load a network client with dos. If you're accessing a microsoft system, you'll need a dos microsoft client. Do a google search, I don't think you'll find anyone motivated enough here to do this research for you, so buy a new drive if you can't figure this out.
