I am embarking on posting our first company web site. My network setup is this:

internet <- router <- pix <- DC/member ser./term. ser. <- workstations

My question is this: Is hosting the web site on a separate Windows server sufficient or do I need to host the site on a ISA machine?

Thanks.

Matt

Thanks for your response Joseph. Do you think I need to run ISA as well or do you think the router and the pix are secure enough without having to request funds to create a DMZ?

Thanks.

Matt

It all depends on what kind of web server your hosting. If this server is just going to be a typical web server that hosts a couple of web sites for display reasons, I would say your secure enough. The biggest problem here is that someone hacks in and takes down your website. You can always recover from tape in a few hours. Is this acceptable in your environment?

If you are going to also have a database containing customer credit card information (for example), I would recommend adding some additional security.

Thanks again Joseph. I will be hosting just our company site. No e-business just yet.

Thanks again.

One more question...

When adding the web server, should the server be placed between the router and pix or behind the pix?

Thanks again.
