Network Connection

I have 2 machines running Windows XP Pro. They both have the same admin username and password assigned under a "mshome" workgroup. I cannot make a connection between the pcs. One will actually see the other, but I can't connect because it says that there is a permission that I may not have. Both "C:" drives are set as shared. What could be stopping these from seeing eachother.

How are they connected to each other? Via cross-over cable or through a hub?

Chances are you will have to give both machines a static IP address and standard subnetmask. This will allow the two machines to see each other.

They are connected through a Bellsouth cayman router. Both machines can access the internet and can ping eachother. They just show wrong permissions.

so you made the admin account of both machines the same through computer management or user managment correct? And you checked that the account is in the local admin group (if they are not the default admin account). Also checked to make sure both have the file and print sharing installed and you can share/set permission on both?

those are the first things I would check.
