I am running windows XP on a Sony Laptop PCG-GRT100p. It has both a wired and wireless network connection built in.
I am set up at home with both a wired network (when I am at my desk) and wireless when I am elsewhere.
Periodically when I am using the internet with either connection type the connection will just go dead.
After much trial and error I have found that I can fix it by disabling and then re-enabling whichever connection I was using at the time. Repair does not work, plugging and unplugging and replugging the cable does not work.
It does not seem to have anything to do with my network at home since none of the other computers are having a problem and also I experience the same problem when I am attached to other networks with this laptop.
It does not seem to make a difference if I use dhcp to set the ip address or hard code it. The frequency varies from 20 times in a day to not occuring for a day or two.
I have not been able to find anything in the event logs that seem to be related to the problem.
I have run several different virus checkers and they all indicate the laptop is clean.
Any ideas??
