Regarding a home network:
Some folders require passwords for full read/write access (for privacy reasons), and any particular computer could be used by any members of the family. So far, so good.

When accessing one of these folders you are prompted to type in the password, but there is also a tick box to tell the computer to save that password. I don't want anyone accidentally leaving this ticked as it is by default, as this defeats the object somewhat, and I can't trust everyone to ensure it is not ticked.

Is there any way - registry hack maybe - that either the box is forced to be NOT ticked by default, or the option to save the password removed altogether?

Many thanks for any help offered.

Regards, Andy.

You can do this with system policy editor (its on the win98 Cd - \TOOLS\reskit\netadmin\poledit folder). If you use its open registry option - then double click on local computer, windows 98 network, passwords, there's option to disable caching. Presumably you'd need to do it on each machine. Google finds a number of helpful sites, eg

Many thanks wolluf, that's done the trick!

This is the first time I've encountered Poledit, but it seems to be a useful tool - I'm going to do some reading up on it. :)

Regards, Andy.
