Netware 5.1 to 6.5 upgrade

I am getting ready to start my 6.5 upgrade. Here is what I have

1 netware 5.1 sp6 server running gw 5.5.5, ndps, gwava 2.11 (this is my current master replica) ds version 7.62b

1 netware 5.1 sp6 server running arcserve and inoculan, ds version 7.62b r/w replica

1 netware 5.0 sp6a server running BorderManager 3.5 sp3 ds version 7.62b r/w replica

1 netware 4.11 sp9 that's just a file server, ds version 6.12 r/w replica

1 netware 5.1 sp6 running vpn services (don't ask) ds version 8.51 r/w replica

Okay now that I have that outta the way I am replacing my current 5.0 BM server this weekend and need to know how to make it the primary replica/master the new netware 6.5 and get rid of the old r/w replicas off the other servers without seriously horkin' myself up....also i need to know how to put the new r/w replicas of the netware 6.5 box on all the servers....

any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Before the upgrade, promote the replica on the BM server to Master and then upgrade. You don't have to do anything to the replicas on the other servers. Any updates will be sent to them.

I am completely replacing my BM server with new hardware then installing netware 6.5. What should I do in that instance? For for a few more weeks the new BM server will be the only Netware 6.5 server

Hi,

First of all are you going to Migrate the BM server over to the new hardware? That is what I would do. Once migrated I would promote it to Master and then do an In-Place upgrade.

Either way, make sure that you run the NWDeploy to prep the network.

Normally, the Master should already be at 6.5 before inserting another 6.5 into the tree. I would seriously think about migrating first or even better, upgrade the Master server first.
