This may be a long shot...
I use Netscape at home and have two accounts setup with my ISP. One email account is with my ISP and the other connects to another server (I believe using POP), a college server.
When I log into the "college" account, the emails are stored on the college server and are downloaded each time a message is read. I do not have access to the server at the moment so when I enter communicator off-line and I click on a message header the body pane of communicator shows a message along the lines of "This email has not been downloaded from the server and is not available off-line..."
My question is...
When I send an email it is sent and stored on the college server. Is this message also stored anywhere on my hard drive? Perhaps in a similar fashion to how documents get "cached" into the print spooler or something similar. Is there any way at all of accessing, or retrieving, or restoring, or whatever the emails that I sent from my computer, through the "college" server if I no longer have access to the server?

First I would suggest to be certain what protocol you are using. You think it is POP but from what you are describing it sounds like it is IMAP.

POP automatically downloads messages to a local file. IMAP keeps the messages on the server.

Check you mail account settings to be sure.

Well, I'm at work right now and can't say for sure. Yes, i thought is was POP but I could be wrong (I'm not much of a protocol, nor terminology, expert).

But, the process I described is accurate. It seems to me that, because the messages are stored on the "college" server, then if the server goes down - or I cannot get access for whatever reason - if I need access to those messages then... I'm screwed. I am just curious to know if there is perhaps some archive or cache or buffer somewhere - somewhere deep within the valley of my computer - that "ghost" images or copies of these messages might be stored.

Is any of this rambling making sense (You might be able to tell that I don't really know what I'm talking about :-))?
