Netopia R5300 and Netbios

I have a vpn connection setup for remote users. I found in the connection properties a setting to serve netbios. I am assuming this is meant to solve the whole Network Places/Neighborhood problem? Anybody have a clue? I can't find any docs yet on this "feature"
