I have a NT Workstation 4.0 (SP6A) that seemed as if it was locked up when I attempted to log in as Administrator. The machine is a firewall and stays on all the time. After a reboot, the system will not allow me to the desktop by stating "unable to log in because netlogon service is not running on this machine." Most of the research says to apply the latest service pack. That would be great if I could get to the desktop, and it already has 6a on it. Any tricks or ideas would be appreciated. I hate to have to reload the OS because the firewall software I am using is such a pain to reapply. Thanks in advance.

We had a similar problem on several workstations and Our PDC! When we rebooted these machines (for whatever reason) they would not connect back into the network because netlogon would not start. After a lot of downtime and research we rebuilt our PDC and some of those workstations. For the ones we did not rebuild, we have a work around which is to disbale the services, reboot and start the services manually. We don't know what has caused this and why it occured but we would love to know your experience. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, but it looks like I will take the firewall down, replace with one I built (I did not build the first one) and gut it open like a trout. Will let you know what spills out.
