Netgear FVS318 V3

Has anyone had any problems deploying these with a remote IP phone connecting back to a Kentrox Q Series router? We have a couple that seem to be dropping the VPN because the phone will just unregister, sometimes even in the middle of a call. I am running the 3.0_24 firmware.

I've never tried to connect the Netgear to a Kentrox. The Netgear, if I recall correctly, uses the same processor for encrption of the tunnel that it uses for its basic operation. I had two Netgears in a VPN and I think it maxed out at 50-70K even though there was 700K available for the tunnel. I would suspect a timout issue because the processor can't keep up with the traffic.

Thanks for the reply. That is great info. I adjusted it down to G.729(a) for the codec and we'll see if that makes a difference. What SOHO routers have you had good success with? I love the Kentrox, but it is not cost effective on the remote side for the home user. The Netgear links back to it nicely, but this is a by product of that marriage so far it seems.

i have had nothing but problems with the netgear 318's i have 0ne 318 v3.0.22 connected to a kentrox and it works good for an ipo to ipn connection. but have had a ton of problems in an ip phone to ipo connections. i starting using fvs104's and it seems to work pretty good.

I can tell you that you will need to run at least the 3.0.23 firmware release on the FVS318 for a remote IP phone, previous versions had an h.323 Gatekeeper issue. I guess that is useless info though until this problem I am having is corrected.

I don't see an FVS104, do you mean the 114? You have remote IP Phones connecting through a tunnel between it and a Kentrox and they are stable?

your right it is the 114. i have 3 sites using them for a single phone per site. it works pretty good.
