I know this is the Cisco switch help, but i was wondering if anyone knew where i could find info on setting up diffserv on a Netgear FSM7326P layer 3 switch? We are implementing a shoregear phone system, and we want to prioritize the voice data using the diffserv setting of 46. this will also be set in our routers (cisco's) but first it needs to be done in the switches. Thanks in advance!

Doing some digging, the only QoS that switch supports is 802.1p (L2 COS). How does the phone system mark the voice packets (COS, TOS, DSCP)? DSCP is backward compatible but take care in the configuration.

Basically the phone system interprets its own data. There is a central server that controls voice switches. The voice switches drive the phones, and this all plugs into our new data switches. When the voice hits the network, its not tagged as voip traffic, it is just normal packets. In any event it is the voice switches that translate the data packets back to voice.
Now to answer your question we are tagging packets with a diffserv value of 46 (or ef as netgear likes to call it) and the switch will look for the DSCP value.
