NetDiag DNS test failed, should WAN Miniport(IP) have an IP address?

We have 2 Win2K domain controllers. The PDC is the primary DNS server. The BDC is the secondary DNS server. The BDC also handles RRAS.

The BDC has 3 NICs attached to it. One for each subnet. The subnets are 10, 11, and 12. In addition, there is an adapter of some kind with 10 modems attached for dial in employees.

After running netdiag test:dns -v
on the BDC, the test results indicated that the DNS test had failed and DNS was not configured conrrectly on the BDC.
I ran browstat dumpnet to list all the transports attached and then tested each one with 'browstat view 1 mydomain'.

The transport that failed that test also fails some other tests and I finally tracked down what it is attached to.

It is a WAN Miniport(IP) adapter.

It has an IP address attached to it as well. It is the IP address that is returned, when anyone within the building PINGS that server.

ping HAN
yeilds '192.168.10.59'

In the RRAS console, 192.168.10.59 is listed as an "Internal" IP address. In addition, it is also listed as one of four IP addresses associated with the BDC server:

10.28
10.59
11.1
12.1

Any ideas why this server is failing the DNS test? Or any other tests I can run?

thanks,

Here's more details:

PDC # of NICS: 1
IP: 192.168.10.23

TCP/IP properties shows preferred DNS server as 10.23 and secondary as 10.28 (BDC)

BDC # of NICS: 3 (one for each subnet)
IP's: 10.28, 11.1 and 12.1

TCP/IP properties for each shows preferred DNS server as 10.23 and secondary as 10.28.

So, you're saying I should remove the secondary address from the TCP/IP properties?

Why does the device WAN Miniport(IP) have an IP attached to it? It's IP is listed as 192.168.10.59

Under RRAS (on BDC) the following is listed:

Type IP Operational Status
-------------------------------------------------------
Loopback Loopack 127.0.0.0 Operational
Internal Internal 192.168.10.59 Connected
12.0 Dedicated 192.168.12.1 Operational
11.0 Dedicated 192.168.11.1 Operational
10.0 Dedicated 192.168.10.28 Operational

-------------------------------------------------------

10, 11 and 12 are attached to their own NIC. The "Internal" IP 10.59 is attached to the device WAN Miniport(IP).

10.59 is the IP failing the DNS test.

Thanks. I'll check out your site for more info.
