Hi,
For ethernet is it enough to configure net addres and after just connect router to switch/hub. And before all of this you must enble control over this port. Try: menu<cr> you should get easy to use menu. You can also check 3com web support for this, you can find there all informations you need. For other ports it can be different, ie. serial/WAN.
