I was curious to find out if anyone else has a mixed environment of master/media servers. For example, we have a solaris 9 master server, two solaris 9 media servers, and a windows 2000 media server. If we were to backup the catalog on all 4 in one catalog backup job I know there is a way to merge the databases for solaris 9, however I am fairly sure the windows 2000 database would have to be restored seperately. Has anyone ever encountered this process in Disaster Recovery testing or otherwise? I am just trying to determine the process we would need to follow in a disaster scenario.

Thanks

We have numerous Unix media servers as well as Windows 2000 media servers. What I do is to backup all the files relating to the catalog to an NT server. Fromt here it is backed up to tape. If I need any kind of restore, I use the files as they exists on our NT server.

To be honest though - We have not yet had to implement any kind of DR, in 4 years we just have not had any real big problems - Now that I've said that ... :)

I can understand how that would work, however could you take the volume database from an NT/2000 server and merge it with a volume database on a solaris system? I would imagine not, but if we don't have a windows server available for our dr testing it would be a serious problem.
