net use l: /delete failure connection not found still available

Ok, here's the deal when I use

net use L: \\machine\share

things work fine. i can change to the l: drive and work and blah blah blah...
now, when i do this

net use l: /delete

i get this message

The network connection could not be found.

if i type l: again it takes me back to the l: mapped drive. if i go to the my computer icon, l: is there with a red x. i can double click it and go to it and use it like it has nothing wrong with it. when i right click on it and choose disconnect it doesn't work. Any ideas of a) how to get rid of it and b)why the hell its there to begin with?

Your autodisconnect connection is confounding things.

When you get around to doing the command:

net use L: /delete
autodisconnect has already disabled the connection.
