If there is no internet connection, (as is the case in one of our classrooms), and I want to configure an Internal Time Server as authoratative, can I achieve this using the Net Time command.

Also, will I then use Net Time \\servername /set to tell other DC's in the network to use this Internal Server for it's time synchronization?

I've been plagued with w32time errors lately...Any insight into this issue will be appreciated!

Thanks,

the net time command should work

what specific problems where you having

Hi SupaTech1,

Not at work today to give you the exact error messages, but mostly..."can't find a DC to synch with, ... Windows will now wait 960 minutes (or something like that) before attempting replication again..."
Existing child domains then have some communication issues with the root domain, (for instance, they couldn't open their default Domain GPO's...error message said it couldn't find the path, or possibily you don't have permissions...)

I'm thinking all this is related to the W32 time errors.

I found a reference on Technet that said that I could set the root DC to be the Internal time server (since I have no external source to synch with), using the Net Time command, however, they did not provide the syntax.

Running the Net Time /setsntp:ip_of_RootDc on child domains did help. (Thanks Futuretech204) Just still curious about whether I need to specifiy the root DC as the Internal server to keep things running smoothly.

Thanks,
