I have a box to box VPN connection between two locations. I am trying to use the net send feature in windows. I have the messenger service running on all machines. They are all on the same domain. Network 1 can net send to any computer on its network and network 2 can net send to any one on its network. I can ping between networks and file share between networks but I can not net send between networks. I am allowing netbios to pass through my vpn connection, which I believe is the only service required. Can anyone help.

Is port 135 also opened (as is 137-139-445 as you mentioned with NetBios)? 2000-XP uses RPC to see what port Messenger is listening on.

Technically, on a vpn, all ports are open. Make sure its not something silly like windows firewall turned on.

OK Disabled the windows firewall and BAMB there it was. I would prefer to leave the firewall on. How should I set this up to allow NET SEND to come through?

I still can't figure out how to config windows firewall to allow me to send NET SEND messages.

Windows firewall acts only for incoming traffic. To enable the ports you need you should add ports at the exceptions tab of Windows firewall at both sides.

Hope this helps

Tried them all both UDP and TCP. Is there a service or any other ports I Have to allow?
