we can send messages over LAN in windows XP and other versions by using

net send [computer name] [message]

so can some one tell me if there is a log of all incomming and outgoing messages....and how to access it. and is it possible to stop the creation of such logs.

is it possible for any other person on another system access the messages being sent between computers without using any kind of s/w ( i mean by using the message server in windows ... or some thing like that) on his machine.

is yes how to avoid.

thank you

1. There are no logs kept.

2. You could packet sniff, the messages are in plaintext. But the short answer to your question as phrased is no.

thank you bcastner
actually a friend told me that there is a log in every machine because we have this msmsgs.exe and it seems this thing keep a log of messages....

so just got curious ..... anyways thank you

kewlcoder,

I would not be too complaicent. If Net Send becomes an issue they hire someone like me. And, they will find you.

But again..

. no logs
. And without additional software the site managers would be clueless.

I will warn you that were this is a problem, there is a great deal that can be done, albeit with additional software, that you will never discover, or perhaps in some cases only discover with a great deal of work if you know ahead of time what to look for.

So, do not do it.

Best,
Bill Castner

thank you bcastner.

i was just worried ... but now thanks
