NET HELPMSG 2273 - WIN XP

When sending message over the internet using NET SEND I get an error NET HELPMSG 2273 form the Windows XP. Any one with any pointers how to over come this stubborn error code.

I think you will find that NET SEND wont work over the internet, most likely reason is firewalls getting in the way. NET SEND is generally used on LAN connections only. I only i have got NET SEND to work over Internet is via VPN.

Faith, net send actually will work over the internet. Although, any firewall or router, or even isp software/hardware can be preventing you from sending the message. More than likely the problem is either a firewall or trying to use a computer name instead of an ip to send the message.

Mikecx, agree with your reasoning about firewalls. The strange thing I can receive messgages from another XP machine via the Internet but I cannot send out messages out on the Internet. Though, I am able to send net message to a local machines.

This is just a random shot in the dark but the local isp around here blocks certain requests on port 80. Your isp may be doing the same.... the reason I say this is a random guess is that i'm not sure which port/protocal net send uses.
