I'm preparing the .net msi to deploy using group policy and i noticed that it's massive compared to .net 1 & 2. .NET 2 was 22Mb, .NET 3.5 is about 190Mb. I've noticed a .NET 3.5 compact package that's only 33Mb, is this the one that can be installed just to run apps and the large one for developers?

Any ideas

Cheers.

No, the large package (197MB) is to run apps. It's for .NET 2.0, .NET 3.0 and .NET 3.5. Technically, though, remember that .NET 3.0 and .NET 3.5 are just extensions to .NET 2.0.

So to be current, you need to deploy the whole thing.

Considering the difference in size between 1 and 2 that's a big jump, i know it includes new features but woh....

Cheers.

Yes it mainly includes access to all the new .NET toys that you see in Windows Vista.

Truthfully you don't want to see the size of the developer packages...well maybe you might.
