Needhelp on picking a VPN router ? 2

Hi, I work for a small company with a simple peer to peer network, and the main customer we deal with needs us to be able to access there computer to pull down certain information, we have a basic Linksys router right now but I don't see anything on it about VPN or anything, so I was curious what router out there is not too complicated to set up for a VPN connection ? We have DSL and are using a static ip set up for that, and also is there other software you need to buy for a VPN connection? or can you just use what's on xp and 2000 os? Thanks for your time.

Hello,

I like the Netscreen 5GT with embedded antivirus. This will provide you with full site to site VPN plus dial-up VPN access using the Netscreen Secure Remote client. I'm using one at home, and it wasn't that hard to setup. It has a CLI and WebUI. Plus it ships with the full ScreenOS as the Enterprise models do, just with some of the features removed.

I used the PIX in the past too, and that worked well. Really hooked on the Netscreens though. My company cut over all our offices to NS-25's and now I even got certified. The 5GT is not that expensive either. The anti-virus pattern files download auto from Trend Micro, and it's nice getting the virusus stripped at the Firewall (POP, FTP, HTTP and SMTP). Just an opinion.

My first choice would be the PIX 501. But since you're looking for simplicity and ease of setup, The Linksys BEFVP41 is a very good choice also.

HI Bahamas68, I bought the BEFVP41 and now I have a stupid question, do I need software besides what's on xp pro and this Linksys router to do a vpn? or between XP and this router I have everything I need to connect to our customers computer? Thanks.

My understanding is that you can use the built in VPN connection setup within any version of Windows.
