Hello folks, I searched and didn't find an answer so I'll throw it out there. I have several NT4.0 servers scattered across the country. The company wants to add a program to the list of scheduled tasks to clean up the databases. So far so good, right? Here's the catch, the application doesn't accept command line options. We can program the task scheduler we have to send the keypresses we need to login and start the application, but the stations are _locked_. The first thing we need to do is unlock the NT server, then start the application.

So, any ideas? Thanks in advance!

you can run it in non interactive mode ,
then you can use scriptit utility to "catch" window names in order to give the right keys to the system , you still will see the locked screen , there is no need to unlock the station ....

I believe (haven't verified it personally yet) that the application we are running requires interactive mode. At least that's what they (nameless, faceless, superiors in other states) are telling me. ;)

I'll give it a shot myself and see.

Thanks.

don't believe them ! :) even if it does need interactive mode , you can use tools like "scriptit.exe" or "autoit" to run it ( without unlocking the ws ) cause it is still interactive ( with desktop ) you just don't see it in your eyes ( and for mighnty superiors it's like whole world to see things ) - create them nice powerpoint snapshots to impress them .. :)
by the way you can run any application both interactive and non-interactive mode ( check the AT command slashes ...
at \\compname /interactive notepad.exe -- will open and show notepad , but same without the /interactive will start the proccess of notepad.exe but won't show it ...

good luck .

I've been testing with a perl script to catch the windows and shift the focus.

It runs fine with the session unlocked, but locked it hangs after launching the utility, but before sending keystrokes. I know this because I unlock the session some minutes after setting the scheduler to kick it off, and viola, it's just sitting there.

Ideas?
