I am coding a Visual FoxPro 8 application. I need to get filtered data from VFP table (.DBF) into a New MS-Project 98 .MPP file.

If you don't know answer to above. How do I get .XLS file format into .MPP? I can also export from .DBF into .XLS, and then work from there.

I am new to MS-Project, and could not easily figure out how to import data from foreign file format. The wizard put up interim dialogbox with query for Import/Export map to use for importing. This confused me on first try. Is there a good explanation for this function?

Zimm:

Importing into MS Project (in 2000) is done through the File, Open option. Select your directory path and then the file format (.xls).
After you click Open, it will prompt you for a Map. You'll probably want to set up a new Map. The map identifies, column by column, where you want your Excel columns to "land" in the MS Project file.

Hope this helps...

Stop right there.

The internal storage structures change dramatically from P98 to P2000. If you're trying to automate a process based on P98 I can guarantee you that the time and effort you expend will be almost totally wasted.

Your first step: upgrade to P2002/P2003 -- and I _strongly_ urge you to go for the Pro version and not the Standard version.

Your second step: rethink what you are trying to do. I'm guessing (you don't even hint at the reason for your Quixotic quest) that the amount of time you spend developing this effort will far outweigh the amount of time that you could spend developing a filter and a column layout where you could do a simple copy&paste from one application to the other.
