I need to create a F: drive which is actually not physical but a created drive that will map to a directory on my local c drive. This is the only way I can install some software that requires files to be written to drive F:

This could be accomplished with the SUBST command in older versions of windows and dos by using it in the Autoexec.bat file such as

SUBST F: C:\MyDir

How do I accomplish the same in Windows ME????? thanks for your help. Keith Buchanan

Because I have a network with ME the following may not work for you.
enable sharing on the drive
my comp, my network places, entire network, get properties on the drive (name and path) , highlite drive, tools , create network drive using path to it identified in properties. Ed Fair

I just tried that (subst X: c:\xxxx) from a dos window. It worked, the drive showed up in My Computer. [Thanks in advance|Hope I helped you]

I can get it to work from a DOS prompt as well. However, I can't get it to stay that way in Autoexec.bat to permanently do it at startup each time the computer is booted up. Keith Buchanan
