i have a crystal report that is scheduled in crystal enterpise to run every month and export to excel. is there away i can have it , that the excel spreadsheet has an auto_filter on each column that has data?

Hi,
What would the auto_filter do?

Wouldn't that be set in Excxel, not Crystal?

yes it would be, but how can i set it up in excel so it imports to the excel spreadsheet and keep the auto filter

well when i export the file to a excel file that i have setup with filters , it over writes the file and the filters are gone

Hi,
The base question was, what does the auto_filter do?

the auto_filter gives the user of the report to filter just the values they want to see

so for instance if there is worker # the person can click on the filter tab and chose only the worker # he wants

It might be simpler to do the selection in Crystal, using parameters. Then export each option as Excel.

I think it's possible via an application that does the exporting of the Crystal report to excel. If I have time, I'll test and let you know...

if you could test it and let me know what applicaton. that would be great

I just created a proof of concept test in my Visual CUT software and this works very nicely. I should have it implemented fully by tomorrow. You can check to see if other 3rd-party tools provide this functionality by reviewing the applications listed at:
You can develop the same functionality within your own application by using the excel object model. Look for the AutoFilter method...

In excel. The application takes care of exporting the report (using the Crystal runtime components) and then (before emailing or simply saving the resulting excel file), if that option is requested, it uses the Excel object model (all you need is excel installed on that machine) it takes care of turning the autofilter option on in the excel file.
