Many pages I found denigrate Whitesmith formatting, but it works better for me, I've found. It's all a matter of personal preference and how you achieve consistent proper syntax. If your programming department recommends one style over another, it may cut down time for other programmers if you follow the recommended style. Nothing worse than trying to maintain code that has 3+ styles evident in just a few pages of the source that you're digging through.
