Hello friends ,

I am asking about methodology to calculate optimal Vlans number
I have 500 computers 10 units cat2950
and two 3550
How many vlans i must create?
All my network there are on one Vlan1 about 8 moth
None problems except autonegotiation
Maybe I dont need create more Vlans and enable routing?

Vlan is used, from my POV, to segmenting broadcast domains based on workgroups, office departments (i.e. finance, management, engineering, enterprise servers (i.e. DHCP, DNS, Web, email) and so forth). Separating broadcast domains is one of the main objectives when using vlans. Remember what Ethernet protocol nature is about. The number of vlans will depend on how you would like to separate traffic, create policies (i.e. allow 1 vlan to access a workgroup server while denying it to another vlan)

Certainly Vlan1 will do, but your network into a flat rather than hierarchical architecture. 500-host network might not sound big time problems. Nevertheless reconsider segmenting if needed. For instance, perhaps some hosts are experiencing slow, drop speed connections. Check your interface counters and see whether you notice collisions, CRC errors, drops, etc ...

hope it helps.
