Need Information about Soundblaster Live! 3

Hello I need to know how much output power a soundblaster live sound card puts out in oHms. I need to know this because we would like to experiment using a pc for our on hold music that can only support 600 oHms. I have checked the creative website and found no answers.

Please let me know or point me to the right place to look.

Y ou should be able to use the Line Out of the sound Blaster to Line In on your on hold. line out has a standard out put in volts and a standard impedence in Ohms this allows sound devices to interface properly. Sorry I can't remember the amounts off the top of my head but it should work fine.

Thanks for the info but i really need some hard evidence to show my manager. Do you know of any technical papers that talk about stuff like this. I checked the creative and soundblaster websites and i could not find the information in writing. please let me know if you could find anything.

Sorry, no definitive tech docs. However, I thought Ohms measured the input resistance, not the power, that's measured in watts? The reason you would want to match ohmage (if that's a word!), is to match the sensitivity of the input to the output of the card. If this isn't done you either get a quiet signal with noise when boosted, or a distorted signal as the input is saturated.

Line level outputs on consumer PC soundcards can typically have output from 30 to 400 ohms, can't say for the SB. Those line level outputs are designed to be connected to consumer equipment with -10dB nominal level line input. Cards designed for professional purposes will have a +4dB line input.

What type of on hold system are you trying to use I am currently using a soundblaster live. on my definity phone system with music on hold and am having no problems. I tried it with something with less power a little portable radio and it was too quiet.

We want to play MP3s on our Phone system (On Hold Music) The input card on the phone system accepts either 8ohms or 600 ohms. We are looking for a sound card that outputs at either level. I am assuming that the Soundblaster Live! will have that output. Let me know what you think.

I would assume it would work the worst that would happen is that it would be really loud or really quiet or wouldnt work at all if the ohms are the only restriction. There is very little power coming out of the card itself I dont think it would hurt anything. However if you are going to try it on a live phone switch I would recomend doing it in off hours in case it is VERY loud wouldnt want anyone else to have to listen to music that is too loud. As far as playing Mp3's Just so you are aware there are lisencing issues with hold music. José B. Olagues
