Greetings

I have a problem with my speaker/headphone setup and my SB Audigy. Current config as follows:

Orange Digital Out Jack: nothing
Blue Line In Jack: Stereo VCR
Pink Microphone Jack: Mono Microphone
Green Line Out Jack 1: Altec Lansing ACS33(2 Speakers + Sub)
Black Line Out Jack 2: Unpowered Headphones

What's happening now is that the powered speakers in the green jack work perfectly and play all sounds properly. But the headphones don't output any sound plugged into the black jack. If the powered speakers are unplugged and the headphones plugged into the green jack, they work properly. What I would like to have is the powered speakers and the headphone outputting the same sound at the same time. I'm fairly sure this is doable because this same setup ( minus the digital-out and firewire ) worked on my last Soundblaster which was an !ISA! card. I have tried to change the speaker settings in Control Panel but there is no change.

Software:

WinXP Pro SP1
Creative Audigy Drivers Revision: AUD-WEBUP-W2-US
Date: 8/26/2002 Size: 12.16 MB

OS install is clean/complete and no other drivers have been installed for the Audigy.

The black line out is for rear speakers of a surround sound setup. It only works if you select nything other than a two speaker or headphone configuration.

Even if you do this & plug headphones in, you'll only get the rear information, so it won't sound correct. Older cards had an actual headphone button, but they don't seem to do that now. Is there a headphone jack on your speakers?

No headphone jack on the actual powered speakers. Is my only option to physically reach in behind the PC and switch green for black when I need to use the headphones?

Sadly yes. It's for that very reason I believe sound card manufacturers have started dropping the connection from the back & adding to the speakers or in the case of Creative, offering a 'Drive' plate that mounts in the front of the PC giving easy access to lots of different connections.

I used to have a similar need to yours & found the best way out was to get an adapter for the port; 3.5m jack with 2 3.5m plugs, allowing you to connect both the speakers & the headphones.

Nowadays I have my PC permanently hooked into my hifi system to use the much larger speakers, via the amplifier, which in itself then gives me a variety of outputs...

Get yourself a splitter to plug into the jack on the sound card and then you can plug both the headphones and the speakers into that. Iv'e got that on my machine because my phone headset will also act as headset/mic for the computer. Works just fine.
