Hi!

I have a major problem with my Abit KT7A-Raid [sadeyes].

My configuration is:
Athlon 1,4 GHz
Abit KT7A-Raid rev 1.0 or 1.1 (with newest bios for both board and raid-controler)
256 MB Ram installed in the mobo
GeForce 4 Ti 4200 (128 MB Ram)

The problem:
If I install the raid-controler-drivers (newest available from the Abit-site) after installing the os, Win2K (prof) wants to take the Win9x-driver. I have to manually select the win2000-driver. After that my system locks up after every restart!
I tried to install the raid-controler during the Windows2000 installation as well (by pressing F6). I get the choice between NT and 2000 driver. I always choosed the 2000 driver. After finishing the installation my system locks up at the first start of the os.

Further more I don't know when it's the right time to install the servicepack2 and the via 4in1 driver.

At the moment I am using Win98 SE. The raid-controler works with my driver but I can't play a single Direct3D game! They all lock up!! Guess there is something wrong with the chipset-drivers?!?

Could please some tell me in which order I have to install all this stuff:
Raid-controler, via 4in1, servicepack, directX, graphic-card.

and as always: excuse my bad english ;-)

cheers,

Hey frag! Seems that your post here has been quite lonely. We'll see if we can't iron out a few things here!

In theory, you should be able to install the raid drivers at the very beginning of the windows install (I am assuming that you are installing windows on a drive that is ON the raid). I have had issues, however, with Windows 2000 not liking the raid drivers that come with some Abit boards, but I can not remember which ones. You might see if you can find updated drivers to use.

I have had much trouble trying to get windows to switch IDE or Raid drivers if your boot drive is on that controller. If I do, then I generally have the same issues that you are describing.

In all of my new installs, I personally install the VIA 4 in 1 drivers first. So far, this works very well for me.

I do not know when the 'proper' time to install service packs is, so I only speak from personal experience here...I always install all of my drivers before installing service packs. Mudskipper
