Happy Holidays all. :)

Previously this week I posted a thread about my WinXP system deciding to kinda give up the ghost and since that time, the hard drive has been making some 'interesting' noises.

I've gotten my OS installed again on another, much smaller, drive and I am trying to get access to my old data files in Documents and Settings and am getting Access Denied errors. I don't recall if I've ever had this particular issue reading files from a drive mounted as a data drive before.

I'll try to post all the necessary information here; I seem to have a habit of neglecting something important or choosing poor phrasing that confuses people when I ask questions....

I have 4 partitions currently on this system, all are NTFS

Drive 0:

C: Contains the new operating system.

Drive 1 (drive with issues):

F: Former boot partition (previous drive C), has most key data, things in Documents and Settings giving me "Access Denied" errors

H: Data partition

Drive 2:

G: Data partition

Since none of the data outside of Documents and Settings was permissioned at all, there doesn't appear to be any other issues with data removal, I just need to remove the ACLs (I believe that's the correct term) from that folder or at least adjust them.

Any suggestions?

Gary

You know, I knew all about 'taking ownership' but since I've never used WinXP in a corp environment (I was laid off) I never knew about the default of 'simple file permissions' to enable that. Thanks for the direction to look in; learned a couple cool things as a result.

Have a great night.
