Need help connecting WinXP workstation via wireless

Hello,

I need some help connecting a Win XP workstation to a NetWare 5.1 server via a wireless connection. I am using the Client version 4.83. I get excelent signal strength it just doesn't want to see the tree, context, or server. I can connect fine via hard line cable. Has anyone else had the same problem? Thanks

Do you get an IP Address off the Wireless Access Point? CHeck the status of your wireless card. If the IP address begins 164. etc... then there is a problem getting an IP Address.

I have tried it with both a static ip and a dynamic ip. The problem appears to be that the network connection does not occur until after the windows OS finishes loading. In other words, if I select "workstation only" (login) from the the novell client login screen the system will continue to boot and once the OS finishes loading, I can then run the Novell login again and everything it will login in fine.
From the Novell login screen (initial) I can not see the tree, the context or the server. I have tried using an IP address for the server name and that still does not work.

What type of card is it? Are you using the latest drivers? Does your wireless Access Point show the machine connecting and does it show any errors?

I am using a Linksys WRT54G Router with a Linksys WMP54G. I have upgraded the firmware on the router and I am using the latest drivers. I have hard coded the ip address for the nic.
I can not ping my notebook with the Novell client login screen. Once I bypass the screen by selecting to login into the workstation only, I can ping the notebook just fine. I have tried to configure the Novell client to use IP ony and have removed IPX.

Has this problem been resolved? If so, please let me know how. I cannot see the tree, context or server before or after logging in as worktstation only. I'm using a hard coded IP address on both the Wireless Access Point and the Notebook. Novell client 4.9. Win XP.

Although I can join the wireless network effortlessly, I can't ping the notebook. Also, I have several Macintosh G4's connecting to the server, but my Win notebooks cannot.

Any suggestions?

Well I kinda fixed it. I could never get a reliable connection so I just installed a Cat 5e cable instaed of using the wireless. Wireless works great in a Windows but Novell seemd to have a problem with it. Keep in mind it was Novell 5 it may have been fixed in later versions.

It doesn't have anything to do with Netware. Wireless is just the transport medium and frankly, the workstation or the server don't care what it is.

You need to configure SLP on the Server, or use some other means for allowing the workstation to locate the tree/server, then it will work.
