Hi,

I am having trouble browsing the shared files on a VPN. I can log into the VPN and see the computers in network neighborhood but when I try to browse the shared files on a computer I am told I don't have permissions and that the network path is not found.

I have setup the VPN server as a LAN and demand-dial router but that didn't change anything.

The IT dept. is telling me that I have to dial into the PVN and then use remote desktop to access a PC in the office. This is not what I want to do.

I think I should be able to log into the VPN and at that point if things are configured right I should be a node on the network with access to printers and file servers.

Please help!

BTW I have read the many posts here from people with similar trouble. I haven't been able to setup DNS or WINS so the next thing I will try is RUN:\\192.168.1.1 or what ever IP I need to get to.

Please post your suggestions!

Thanks

Todd

I have gotten to the point where I can access the remote network computers if I specify their IP address. However, If I try to map a network drive using the common name of the remote computer I get the error regrading permissions/network path not found.

Doe anyone know what I need to change so that name resolution works?

1. Try adding the Servers and their IP's to your hosts file.
2. If you're using XP go into Control Panel - Users - Advanced and clear any cached credentials that may be there.

P.S. Your sys admin hasn't blocked all traffic going to network resources except say mail have they? So if you log on as UserA on the LAN everything is fine yes? But if you log on as UserA on through the VPN everything goes screwy yes?
