trying to ping your server from outside, if you open a certain port, ping by the port after ip

just wonder what router you use ?

i'm pretty new to this whole comcept of routing
i'm using the w2k as a router with 2 nics

i could ping my cerver from outside..

when i put ipconfig on my test comps, the ip routing isn't turned on, pls help me out...
thank you

sorry, i goof, can't ping by ports

how are your client connecting in, by dial up or another high speed connection ?

your clients have their respective account in the server? do the have access to dial up to the server in their GPO (Group POlicy Object)?
Is the server ready to receive those calls (If the clients dial a phone number the server is able to pick the call?)?
MAybe you can try making VPNs (Virtual Private Connections) to the server, if your server is permanent connected to the internet and your clients can have internet connection.

Keep fighting for your knowledge!

What IP addresses and subnet mask are you using? I think RRAS with NAT requires the use of 192.168.x.x ?

Hve you set up all your clients with correct gateway through DHCP?

Have you setup the NAT connector with the appropriate internal interface?

Can you ping the gateway?

Can you ping your external gateway?

Can you resolve DNS names?

my local nic is 192.168.1.1
my dsl nic is 10.10.1.1

i've setup the dhcp to distribute the correct gateway
i think i've set the NAT connector correctly
i can ping my gateway
i can ping my external gateway
yes i can resolve my dns name...

your dsl nic is screwed up
i don't know any isp would have that 10.10.1.1 ip, most isp either goes static or dynamic

to do rras, i rather have static ip

Some ISP's use an internal network address initially so that you can get to a web page hosted by them and statically set your MAC address to the IP they are going to provide you. If you got the 10.X.X.X address from your ISP call them up and find out what the procedure is for getting a proper external address from them.
