Here is the situation. I have a norstar compact ICS connected to a call pilot auto attendant with voicemail. Recently we renovated our office and disconnected the system. At this time we have three phones with direct extensions. extension 21,22 and 23. 0 is also the general extension which makes all phones rings.

Problem # 1 is: When an outside caller tries to ring extension 21,22 or 23 the phone doesn't ring. The outside caller will hear one ring and then it will go straight to voice mail.

Problem #2 is: We can no longer access voicemail from the button programmed on the phone. Now when I press the voicemail button it says calling 29?

What could have happened? Appreciate any help.

Regards,

Marc

Check that your relay the ext's you think you are by doing Feature * 0 then press Intercom.

Make sure forwards are off on your phones by doing F#4 or F#987

Reprogram vmail button:
F*3
Press vmail button

Sorry I didn't know. Is there a way to edit out the e-mail address? I'm just looking for help that's all.

What exactly are relays? How could the settings have changed? We didn't do anything to the system, but disconnect the phones from the bixblock.

Appreciate the feedback.

I think that's a typo. He meant really.

As to how they could have changed, there are a couple of different ways.

You said you pulled jumpers off the block- did you put them back on the exact same ports they came from?

Also, was set relocation on when you pulled the jumpers? Did you reinstall the same sets you removed, or did they get new phones?

For VM answering on the first ring, make sure one of the extensions you've got live is x21, then press f*0 to find the "Services" button (or press f871 to cycle to Normal mode).

I don't think there's a single magic bullet to fix this one. One way or the other, there's going to be some reprogramming involved.

Another thing is that the system can longer identify which phones correspond with it's proper extension. For example my phone used to be ext 21. How can I re-program my phone to be ext 21.

As curly suggested, start by identifying where you're at now- Press f*0, then intercom, then # at each set. First you'll see the extension you're at, and after pressing # you'll see the physical port that extension is on the system.

It's hard to get from point A to point B without knowing where point A is.

OK guys thanks for the starting point. I will try it first thing in the morning and report back. Monday night football is on :)

Hey guys, I tried pressing feature * 0. When I do that the phone says " press a button "
EXIT

After that if I press #, nothing happens.

Are you referring to this step?

Check that your relay the ext's you think you are by doing Feature * 0 then press Intercom.

If so, this is the result I get.

it says: 26 26
VIEW->

when I press VIEW-> it says ...PORT 106

There are only 3 available ports in on my bix block. I plugged a phone into each of them and ran the inquiry.

The other two ports display

35 -> port 115 and 36 -> port 116

Set relocation is Off sounds like.

You have to remove the jumper on 101 and replace with the jack that has DN 26 or if you have access to Config programming then go to SystemProgramming/Change DN
Enter Old of 26 and New as 21.

Use change dn as a last resort, though. If you start down that road, there's a lot of programming to be done.

If you're comfortable moving jumpers, then that's your best bet. x26 is on port 106 (the red/blue pair). To make that x21, pull the jumper off that pair, and re-punch it on the white/blue pair.

By default, the extensions start at 21 on port 101 (w/bl), and work their way up to x36 (y/bl). By using button inquiry, you'll find the jumpers you need to move.

Hey guys I decided to throw in the towel and find a local tech. I'll be sure to report what was wrong. Thanks for the help anyways.

Agreed, but it never hurts to try. The people on this forum have been incredibly helpful. Even though I'm pretty technical, this kind of stuff is way over my head!!!!
