We're a small web hosting company, and have just recently decided we need to upgrade to a 34 Mbps Internet connection. Thus we need a new router, and wanted some tips on what kind of router(vendor(s)/model(s)) would be most interesting for us to look closer at?
At 34 Mbps you're looking at ATM or HSSI controller. In theory a 2600 might be able handle the load if you're using a default route and no special features (queueing, filtering, routing protocol, multicast...)
At a minimum you need a 3600 series router. A 3620 has 2 bays for network module, a 3640 has 4.
If it were me I'd get a used 7204VXR off Ebay. It has enough horsepower to do just about anything you would run into and shouldn't cost you more than 5-6K on Ebay.
