I did some searching and found nothing useful in the MS Knowledge Base. There were about 3 Q articles that did not help. Anyone else seen this problem when sending to a Contact? The contact used to be a custom recipient (in 5.5), and has an SMTP address of @mycompany.com

A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients. Contact your administrator.
<exchsrvr.corp.mycompany.com #5.4.6>

Thanks for any help!

You have a mail routing loop. You probably still have the custom recipient in the Exchange 5.5 side, and a similar one in AD and they are sending messages in a loop.

Also... invalid x.400 and smtp addresses on the contact or user account can cause the same issue.

You are absolutely correct, i do have the custom recipient in E55, but how am I supposed to "migrate" if I have to remove it completely from one side. Also, I can't delete it from E55 because the ADC will delete it from AD.

You can disable automatic deletions in the ADC Connection agreement properties. I typically do not enable the automatic deletion because I want to decommission the Exchange 5.5 side.

On another note, if you are copying your custom recipients from Exchange 5.5 to AD, then the should have the same destination address. Are your custom recipients pointing to Exchange 2000 as a foreign mail system?
