Saturday's GeekFest '05 was an absolute and total blast (my thanks to John for setting it up, to Chip for driving the Troglodites, to Chopstik for making the local arrangements, and to Tracey for not leaving me to smoke alone beneath the railroad tracks (see above post). I don't remember the last time I had so much fun or such a unique experience.
Of course, I've never traveled 125 miles to meet a bunch of strangers, either. I highly recommend it (no pun intended, as far as you know, but note the green bottles in the picture...) The glass on the left, seemingly 2/3 full of beer, was just a prop - I never actually saw a non-empty glass...
Seriously, I urge all TTers to attend their next available meet. You'll be surprised how much fun it is to meet the folks you've conversed with for so long, and how much different they might be from what you expected. Hint: Only one of the four folks I met for the first time on Saturday was remotely like what I expected; it was really cool to meet the real people.
(BTW: digital pictures add 30 pounds and a lot of gray hair. I actually look like Tom Cruise).
You know you're having a good meet when the waitress (Miss Charlotte was just awesome) when you meet at 5:00 PM and around 1:00 [red]AM[/red] Charlotte says, "Can you guys pay up now? You're welcome to stay, but I'd like to go home." Eight hours is a good meet; I didn't want it to end, thus our plans for the next Mid-Atlantic GeekFest in late March. Non-attendees from Saturday's inaugural (sp?) meet will be kidnapped and forced to pick up the TAB (you only wish that was a "keyboard joke)."
Seriously, ...
[purple]At this point, someone should be quoting from "The Princess Bride": "You keep using that word; I do not think it means what you think it means."[/purple]
Meet, fellow TTers, meet. You won't regret it.
Tim
