I recently had a failure a data drive on my NT Domain Controller. I decided to go with the MaxAttach Network Attached Storage. I would like to manage the NAS storage of 230GB as a drive on the NT box. This will make file shares allot easier to manage. I have been told you can use NAS as a Virtual Disk, and manage it as if it is local (IE share the folder). Has anyone done this? If you can't seems to me, NAS is nothing more than a very standard file server.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Michael Dunlap

I think I found my own answer. IF you want Virtual disk support You need SAN (Storage Area Netwok) not NAS (Network Attached Storage)

HI.

Yes, the MaxAttach NAS is simply a bundled file server.

I do not recommend it because it uses W2K *Software* based RAID, and because you can't install a local backup tape on it. And also when you have problems, you need to replace the whole box, not just a specific drive or so.

Thanks Yizhar-

I agree, are you sure on the replacement of the entire unit for a 4x80GB SCSI Maxattach? It is not an IDE based NAS server. It also has an external SCSI port and two 10/100NIC's and 1 10/100/1000 NIC.

Any recommendations?
